Why do I need to
calculate my carbon footprint?
1
These human-emitted heat-trapping gases include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, and various chlorofluorocarbons.
Among these, carbon dioxide exerts a larger influence on the planet warming than other gases combined.
HOW MUCH DO WE CONTRIBUTE IN GLOBAL WARMING?
Climate scientists agree that the significant increase in heat-trapping gases is the main cause behind the 1.8°F (1.0°C) rise in global average temperature since the late 19th century.
Overview of U.S.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions in 2019
Humans are putting an estimated 9.5 billion metric tons of carbon into the atmosphere each year by burning fossil fuels. Another 1.5 billion through deforestation and other land cover changes.
*According to NOAA Climate.gov, updated on September 22, 2021
Where do
our emissions go?
Each year, forests and other vegetation absorb around 3.2 billion metric tons of humans-emitted carbon emission; the ocean absorbs about 2.5 billion; and a net 5 billion remain in the atmosphere.
The remaining emission in the atmosphere raises the global average carbon dioxide concentrations by about 2.3 parts per million every year.

What is Carbon Footprint?
Carbon footprint is the term used to measure the amount of emissions or greenhouse gases produced by human activities, both directly and indirectly.
Impact of Carbon Emissions
Carbon emissions refer to the gases released from the combustion of carbon-containing compounds, including six types of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and others.
